Velveteers

My first time photographing a band that didn’t require credentials was at Big Room Bar in Columbus, Ohio. Luckily, I got in contact with The Velveteers earlier that day and they assured me that I was going to be able to cover the show. The 2-Drummer band was opening for Greta Van Fleet for a few months, but this was their headlining show, and they were ready to steal the spotlight.

The room was hot and the band was rocking out. Demi Demitro, the lead was the only one of their feet. Which gave her access to almost the entire floor. From jumping on the kickdrum, off of it, laying on the ground, and head banging left and right she was creating the energy that the crowds was eating up.

Although I wasn’t able to grab an interview with the group I did get to meet them afterwards. They were by far the most friendly band right off the rip I have ever met. They went out of their way to take photos with fans close up, free meet and greets. Baby Pottersmith (seen below) welcomed me with open arms, literally giving me a hug. After every fan had left, I forgot to leave my information, so I headed back into the venue, where the band members noticed me and came over to speak with me. If you ever get a chance to meet The Velveteers, don’t hesitate to. Their psychedelic rock n’ roll brings a familiar sound to every type of fan.

Thank you to Baby for trying to help me get in contact with management.

Toledo Interview:

Liam: Are there any bands you guys dream of collaborating with?

Jordan: Grizzly Bear was originally kind of why we became friends and probably has a lot to do with why we moved to Brooklyn. Grizzly Bear has the two singers so we look to that and think about how to play around with that and do it a little bit differently.

Liam: Any specific songs that come to mind that gave you inspiration?

Daniel: Gotta Have You by the Weepies

Jordan: Right now if I was on an Island and had to choose one song, the song that our friend put out that is so catchy is called Sunday by Sea Lemon

Liam: What venue would you guys love to play at?

Daniel: Anywhere if we have our own sound person. I honestly think this venue (Mahall’s in Ohio) is one of the coolest places we’ve ever played.

Jordan: And I would be stoked to come back here with our own sound person.

Liam: Is there anyone that you guys wanna shout out?

Jordan: Chris Plante and Parker Knisley.

Liam: What is the name of your new album?

Daniel: It’s called How it Ends and we are announcing it July, 19th and it’s our first and final album. Just kidding its not but we should say that. It releases September 23rd, aka the same day that Alex G’s album comes out.
