Window Dogs
The most exciting thing for a photographer is when the band is excited to talk to you. It’s like being a kid again meeting idols that you never knew you had. Being an artist is hard but is even harder to keep doing as you age and these guys do it effortlessly and all have smiles while doing it. The band wasn’t shy of explaining what they have been through to reach where they are now which gives some motivation to any artists trying to perfect their craft and continue to create or perform.
Thank you to Jonathan for getting the group this gig last minute so I could meet you guys.
Below the gallery will be the interview with Window Dogs.
Window Dogs Interview:
Liam: Where are you guys from exactly?
Johnathan: We’re from Cleveland and scattered in suburbs around Cleveland.
Liam: Have you guys played outside of Cleveland?
Johnathan: We’ve played Columbus, Bloomington Indiana but mostly local stuff yeah.
Liam: Any big venues you have played at or looking forward to play at?
Johnathan: The Beachroom Ballroom is a great one in Cleveland.
Liam: Is there anything that you guys are releasing or looking forward to releasing?
Johnathan: We’ve got like 5. So we just released the last EP of 5 songs and we are kind of working on some behind them but we didn’t record it full lengths so we’re trying to record like 5 new songs. Brian is getting really good at recording demos in his basement so we’re gonna flirt with those and see what we get. Or we might just drop 5 singles, it’s hard to see what resonates with people.
Liam: I just came from Wonderstruck today, are you guys wanting to play any festivals similar to that?
Johnathan: We do play outdoor sometimes, our next show is July 27th at Funkoship, it’s sort of like a big outdoor space for platform brewery and that one is with Welshly Arms which is a really big band from Cleveland and also Stay Outside from Indianapolis.
Liam: How did you guys start out?
Sean: Our Origin Story…
Johnathan: Dan and I had another band and he had been in a different band with Sean so he was kind of like the mutual connect and we basically merged our two bands. We then brought in two very awesome people, Joey and Brian to enter the fold. This is a unit, we’ve been playing like this for like three years. It feels like we’re growing, writing better songs and having people enjoying the shows.
Liam: What is some inspiration that you guys pull from?
Dan: Some of it overlaps but none of our favorites are line up very much
Sean: I grew up with like folk and bluegrass so I really like Manchester Orchestra and a lot drive through record bands so I take a lot when writing music from folk music. It’s really important to me to always have meaning behind the lyrics and not just say stuff to say it.
